NHA presents Meritorious Service award to Linde’s McGowan

2010-06-22
Murray Hill & New Providence, New Jersey, U.S., June 22, 2010 – The National Hydrogen Association has presented its Meritorious Service award to Mike McGowan, head of strategic alliances and government affairs for Linde North America’s alternative energy team.

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company and one of the world’s largest hydrogen producers. The NHA, the world’s largest hydrogen technology trade association, was established in 1989 to foster the development of hydrogen technologies and their use in industrial, commercial and consumer applications and to promote the role of hydrogen in the energy field.

The NHA presented the award to McGowan at its 21st annual conference, which was held at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. "As the role of hydrogen in energy and environmental technology change deepens, so must the strength of its industry association,” said Jeff Serfass, president of the NHA. “Mike received this award because of his strong leadership in transforming our organization's reach to include all hydrogen and fuel cell interests,” Serfass said.

McGowan is the current chairman of the NHA and has served on its board of directors since 2003. “We have had some serious economic and technical challenges in the hydrogen and fuel cell effort over the past several years. The NHA has helped the industry meet those challenges and has been a significant factor in moving hydrogen to the forefront as a viable alternative energy source. I am very proud to have been a part of that effort and very pleased to receive the award,” McGowan said.

Linde, one of the earliest entrants into the hydrogen energy arena, is a leader in the safe production, storage and distribution of hydrogen. Linde is the world’s only company with in-house technology to fuel gaseous or liquid hydrogen regardless of the mode of on-board storage. Linde has equipped over 70 hydrogen fueling stations in 15 countries, supplying hydrogen for projects large and small.

McGowan joined Linde in 1994. Prior to his current role, he was product manager for the company’s liquid and onsite hydrogen businesses as well as its non-cryogenic nitrogen product line. He received a MBA from Columbia University and a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. degree in English from University of Notre Dame.

The Linde Group is a world leading gases and engineering company with 48,000 employees working in more than 100 countries worldwide. In the 2009 financial year it achieved sales of EUR 11.2 billion (USD 15.3 billion). The strategy of The Linde Group is geared towards sustainable earnings-based growth and focuses on the expansion of its international business with forward-looking products and services.
